What counts toward your fluid intake?
Plain water is an easy calorie-free default, but it is not the only source. Tea, coffee, milk, sparkling water, soups, and water-rich foods all contribute. Food commonly provides part of total water intake, which is why “total water” guidance is not the same as a plain-water target.

A common pre-exercise starting point is about 5–7 mL/kg roughly four hours before activity; long, hot, or high-sweat sessions may also require electrolytes.
